Meet us at the tcworld conference 2021
The program of this year's tcworld conference is once again fully packed with live lectures, meetups, technical presentations, tutorials and much more. You will also have the opportunity to exchange ideas with our experts.
This year's conference will take place from November 8 to 19 - again as a digital event.
Our sessions will cover topics such as gender-neutral writing in technical documentation, the administration of metadata, and ethical design.
Here are the details about our sessions. The German presentations will be simultaneously translated into English.
Für jeden/jede/Jedi – Möge das Gendern mit Dir sein
(German presentation)
Leonie Saremba and Ulrike Parson
November 10, 2021, 9:55 - 10:30 a.m. (CET)
Gender-neutral language is becoming more and more entrenched in everyday speech. The Duden, the dictionary of the German language, has made the gender asterisk official. We need to talk! What does this mean for technical communication? Until now, there have not been any official guidelines for gender-neutral technical documentation. We'll present options and want to motivate you with recommendations and tips and tricks for a practical implementation.
Don't be fooled! – Dark Patterns and Ethical Design
Leonie Saremba and Anton Bollen (TechSmith Corporation)
November 11, 2021, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. (CET)
We have all been there: Accidentally agreeing to a subscription, getting fooled by an advertisement, or offering up unnecessary personal data by having clicked too intuitively. We often find ourselves in these situations unknowingly, misguided by the design of the user experience. Why don't we use that power for good and enable ethical design? Come and experience why it matters, how it works, and the importance of UX writing during this process.
Intelligent Information for Technical Standards – Delivering smart standards
Patrick Schedlbauer and Ulrike Parson
November 11, 2021, 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. (CET)
Did you ever wonder whether iiRDS as a metadata model is suitable for your company's documentation? It was made for the machinery industry and maybe software documentation, right? We will show you that this is not the case. We demonstrate how to use iiRDS for the documentation of technical standards from the automotive industry and how to enable smart content delivery for these documents. The prototype has been developed for ASAM e.V.
Erst die Metadaten, dann der Inhalt. Wenn Metadaten das Redaktionssystem steuern
(German presentation)
Ulrike Parson and Dr. Achim Steinacker (Empolis Intelligent Views GmbH)
November 12, 2021, 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. (CET)
Technical communicators manage metadata for variants and publication in content management systems. But what happens when we add more metadata, for example, from a product ontology? Does it all go into the content management system? We'll present an approach to configure the metadata externally and let the content management system create or compile modules.
