Der Standard iiRDS macht Dokumentation smart – für ihre Auslieferung in Portalen, Apps und Datenbrillen. In Zusammenhang mit iiRDS werden sehr häufig Anwendungsbeispiele aus dem Bereich Maschinenbau genannt - zum Beispiel das Szenario der Service-Fachkraft, die mit einem Endgerät einen Fehlercode an der zu reparierenden Maschine scannt und anschließend auf dem Display den Informationsschnipsel zur Problembehebung empfängt.
